It is the same as the .CVSROOT directory.  Basically it is the entire
directory you checked out.  Subversion stores these files locally so it
can compare against the working copy for commits.  This way it doesn’t
have to go across the wire and compare all the files to see what has
changed.  Also stores the URL of repository and other internal info.
