First of all, I think the current implementation of the front end design in 
the old ldapd implementation is fine.  That said, I am not against reworking 
it.

I wasn't suggesting using JMS or an internal version of it.  I agree that that 
is overkill.  We need something lightweight and fast.  I'll take a look at 
those links now.
