Subject [jira] [Commented] (DMAP-198) Make Device data available as flat XML files, not ZIP or JAR

Werner Keil commented on DMAP-198:
----------------------------------

I checked and the .NET versions naturally don't even have a JARLoader because JARs are specific
to Java.
No option to recreate something like a ZIPLoader at least not with the zero-resources available
to help.

So to keep all relevant clients working it's crucial to have a folder they can point to even
after the VM could likely be gone (or if it's offline like in prior cases)

> Is it possible to release DeviceMap Data (1.0.4) only or in addition to Maven as an "exploded
archive" aka XML files in a folder?
> Several projects do have plain text files (other than README) in their distros,
> http://apache.org/dist/vcl/2.4.2/ contains (signed) .SH files
> http://apache.org/dist/karaf/documentation/ contains HTML and PDF (not even signed)
> http://apache.org/dist/sling/eclipse/ (could be a P2 repo) consists of entirely unsigned
XML files.
> So not every project puts all download files into an archive, thus it should be possible
to do so with DeviceMap data to allow "URL" access from that location (if others are gone)
