Not any that I know of. If you set up dbcp as to test database connections 
before it hands them out (using a command similar to "SELECT 1"), then you 
can use Torque.getConnection(), and see if you get an exception thrown. 
Note that this command can take quite long if any firewall bettween db 
cliean and db server acts as a black hole if the db is not available. But 
there might be another dbcp property to configure a timeout.
