log4j.appender.org.apache.torque.append=false

Then be carefull to only have the torques lib form torque.3.1.zip and not the 
torque-gen.3.1.zip lib otherwise there is a conflit
between the two jars.

And BTW be sure  to start log4j, I am not sure that it is an obligation, but I 
do use it. ;)
