Solved, and nothing to do with derby.

I had problems in my system, it was not able to find itself because the local loop was down:

~$ sudo ifconfig lo up

has fixed it.

I get this at 'startNetworkServer':

DRDA_SecurityInstalled.I
DRDA_ListenPort.S, <1527>, <localhost>, <java.net.BindException: Cannot
assign requested address>

Any idea? How can I have the server working?
