Yes, that does work, even for my larger object. I think that, according to
SQL:2003, the original value specification should have been recognized as a
binary string literal (i.e. a value of type BLOB). In fact, I find no
mention of type CHAR FOR BIT DATA in the standard. Nevertheless, the cast
specification is standard SQL.
