If you want to compare Derby with postgreSQL wrt. "richer sql language" and "broader implemntation
of sql standards"
you may look at

and
    http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.1/interactive/features.html

Note of caution: It doesn't help you to choose the one with "broader"
or "richer" sql if the selected db does not meet your requirements.
