Hi,

Yes it is possibile to use Derby in client-server applications.
At the server side derbynet.jar and derby.jar are needed in the 
CLASSPATH to start/stop server, create databases etc.

You can download the JCC driver jars (for network JDBC access ) from the 
IBM site,  to be used in the client applications from:
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/downloads/jcc/
