Petr Slaby commented on DERBY-5936:
-----------------------------------

Hi Rick,
I really wonder what kind of an error this could be. Why and how would the ARM layer pick
a Derby file to write its data to? Why would Derby redirect stderr to one of its files? Or
a Java bug randomly redirecting stderr to one of the currently opened files? Each scenario
I can think of is very unlikely, but it happens. The application has several thousands users,
there are several incidents a week.

1) No the file name is different each time, at least in the cases I have seen. I do not have
enough Derby insight to be sure about the table the dat file belongs to, but I get the AIOOB
exception from a different query each time - which makes me conclude that a different table
is damaged in each case.
2) No, just one damaged file in the cases I have seen.
3) We have several cache layers, Derby is used to cache data between sessions. It is just
a cache, but it is expensive to fill it. Building the cache produces client-server traffic
and takes some time, which is annoying for the user.

Thanks,
Petr.
