I am looking into backporting this to 10.10 because DERBY-6503 has been identified as a candidate
for 10.10 backport but the changes for DERBY-6503 are conflicting with changes that went in
for DERBY-6287. If there is an issue with backporting DERBY-6287 to 10.10, please let me know
but from the description of this improvement, it seems like it should be ok.
