Subject [jira] [Commented] (DERBY-6326) index.html in demo directory java/demo/localcal/src is not valid html

Kim Haase commented on DERBY-6326:

I think Myrna's point is compelling. It's probably not a good idea to use someone else's proprietary
software even for a free demo like this one.

The HTML errors seem strange to me, starting with the error "Line 59, Column 7: end tag for
element "HEAD" which is not open" -- the head tag IS open. Maybe there are unrecognized elements
inside it or something, but they were not caught. That makes the remaining errors suspect.

Another problem with the demo is that it uses that archaic thing, an applet. Is there some
way to rewrite the app to avoid this (and Google) and still showcase whatever features of
Derby are meant to be demonstrated? After all, HTML5 provides a way to pop up a calendar,
even though not all browsers support this yet -- maybe only Chrome so far (more Google! but
you don't have to have a Google account to use Chrome).

> Project: Derby
> Issue Type: Improvement
> Components: Demos/Scripts

> The index.html code that is part of the demo app "localcal" is not valid HTML. Output
from the w3m html validator attached in "report.txt". It would be good to make it compliant.
