Subject [jira] [Created] (DERBY-6010) Reference Manual should clarify what ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN does
Date Fri, 07 Dec 2012 22:57:23 GMT
Kim Haase created DERBY-6010:
--------------------------------

Summary: Reference Manual should clarify what ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN does
                 Key: DERBY-6010
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-6010
             Project: Derby
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Documentation
    Affects Versions: 10.10.0.0
            Reporter: Kim Haase
            Assignee: Kim Haase
            Priority: Minor

The documentation should state explicitly that ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN adds the new column
at the end of the table row. If you need to change a column (for example, to change its data
type), the only way to do so is to drop the column and add a new one, and this changes the
ordering of the columns.
