Looks like a reasonable workaround for the bug, as the call to clear() seems not to be strictly
required in any of the cases.

The alternative approach of adding extra synchronization may be difficult, unless the Properties
objects are replaced with some other data structure. At least the straightforward fix of enclosing
the loop in DoubleProperties in a synchronized block on "write" would probably not suffice,
because the multi-level nesting of Properties objects would still make it possible for other
threads to access one of the underlying Properties objects directly and bypass the top-level
synchronization.
