Subject [jira] [Created] (DERBY-5241) The = and <> operators should be supported on CLOBs.

The = and <> operators should be supported on CLOBs.
----------------------------------------------------

                 Key: DERBY-5241
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-5241
             Project: Derby
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: SQL
    Affects Versions: 10.9.0.0
            Reporter: Rick Hillegas

According to the 2008 SQL Standard, part 2, section 4.2.1, the = and <> operators should
be supported when comparing CLOBs. The following script shows this defect:

connect 'jdbc:derby:memory:db;create=true';

create table t( a clob, b clob );

select * from t where a = b;
select * from t where a <> b;

A partial workaround would be to cast the CLOBs as VARCHAR( 32672 ). This would work for small
CLOBs.
