Kevin could you post a stand alone java program to this issue showing the problem?  Have you
tried the test case with the Sun JDK and it succeeds?  If you narrow it down to an IBM JDK
issue, I can help get an issue filed.

I believe IBM java 6 is up to service refresh 9.  You might want to try with the latest as
well.
