Subject [jira] Updated: (DERBY-4566) Make it possible to define variables in ij
Date Fri, 12 Mar 2010 19:12:27 GMT

Sylvain Leroux updated DERBY-4566:

    Attachment: DERBY-4566_0.3.sql

Here is a third proposal for this issue.

This version adds the opportunity to use variables to control loops.And it adds variables
substitution in J-SQL strings using the ${....} notation.
The attached sql file demonstrate all these features.Here is a short extract that performs
10 inserts in a table:
    SET range AS 1..10;
    FOR i IN range
         EXECUTE 'insert into t2 values(${i}, 100*${i})';

The code is not yet ready for inclusion. Think of it as a proof of concept for now. But I
will be glad to have some feedbacks of this before pursuing.

> It would be nice to have a way in ij to store statement results in variables for later
> Notably, It would allow to use (meta)data obtained by some statements (such as SHOW ....)
beyond the simple display of the result. Moreover, it could be a first step toward extending
the scripting capabilities of ij.
