I came across the character ta= ble for Mac OS Roman encoding here: http://smontagu.damowmow.com/genEncodin= gTest.cgi?family=3Dapple&codepage=3Droman Now, "=C3=B6" has the codepoint 0xF6, which is encoded in UTF-8 as {0xC3, 0= xB6}. If you decode this byte sequence using the above mentioned character = table, you get the character sequence "=E2=88=9A=E2=88=82", which has the u= nicode escape sequence \u221A\u2202. This is the same escape sequence used = to represent =C3=B6 in the 10.5 messages. Same goes for "=C3=BC": Codepoint 0xFC --> UTF-8 {0xC3, 0xBC} --> decoded u= sing character table to "=E2=88=9A=C2=BA", whose unicode escape is \u221A\u= 00BA. I think this should be a fairly easy scripting task to fix as well. > Localized help message from derbyrun.jar has wrong encoding > ----------------------------------------------------------- > > Key: DERBY-4492 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-4492 > Project: Derby > Issue Type: Bug > Components: Localization, Tools > Affects Versions: 10.5.2.0, 10.5.3.0 > Reporter: Knut Anders Hatlen > > When I change the locale to one of the languages for which we have locali= zed tools messages, either by changing the system locale or by setting the = derby.ui.locale property, the output from derbyrun.jar is garbled: > $ java -Dderby.ui.locale=3Dzh_TW -jar derbyrun.jar > =C3=81=C3=AE=C2=AE=C3=8A=E2=89=A5=C3=AF=C3=94=C2=BA=C3=B6 > java -jar derbyrun.jar ij [-p propertiesfile] [sql script] > java -jar derbyrun.jar sysinfo [-cp ...] [-cp help]=20 > java -jar derbyrun.jar dblook [args] (=C3=8A=C3=A0=C3=B1=C3=8A=C3=B2=C3= =98=E2=80=B0=E2=88=8F=C3=A7=C3=82=C3=A4=E2=80=A0=C3=82=C2=BA=C3=AF=C3=8A=C3= =AF=E2=88=8F=E2=80=B0=C2=AA=E2=80=A2=C3=8A=C3=BC=E2=80=A2=C3=81=C3=BA=C3=A3= =C3=81=C3=AE=C2=AE=C3=8A=E2=89=A5=C3=AF) > java -jar derbyrun.jar server [args] (=C3=8A=C3=A0=C3=B1=C3=8A=C3=B2=C3= =98=E2=80=B0=E2=88=8F=C3=A7=C3=82=C3=A4=E2=80=A0=C3=82=C2=BA=C3=AF=C3=8A=C3= =AF=E2=88=8F=E2=80=B0=C2=AA=E2=80=A2=C3=8A=C3=BC=E2=80=A2=C3=81=C3=BA=C3=A3= =C3=81=C3=AE=C2=AE=C3=8A=E2=89=A5=C3=AF) > $ java -Dderby.ui.locale=3Dde_DE -jar derbyrun.jar > Syntax: > java -jar derbyrun.jar ij [-p Merkmaldatei] [sql Script] > java -jar derbyrun.jar sysinfo [-cp ...] [-cp help]=20 > java -jar derbyrun.jar dblook [Argumente] (oder ohne Argumente f=E2=88=9A= =C2=BAr Syntaxinformationen) > java -jar derbyrun.jar server [Argumente] (oder ohne Argumente f=E2=88=9A= =C2=BAr Syntaxinformationen) > Only the help message from derbyrun.jar is garbled.
