Subject [jira] Updated: (DERBY-4152) mailjdbc test database grows very fast with 10.5
Date Wed, 22 Apr 2009 18:42:47 GMT

Kathey Marsden updated DERBY-4152:
----------------------------------

      Priority: Minor (was: Critical)
    Derby Info: (was: [Regression])

I ran the 10.4 version of the test against trunk for 48hours and saw similar growth to the
10.4 run.
The 10.4 run database size after 48 hours:
du -sk mailsdb
   1522727 mailsdb
The trunk run database size after 48 hours:
du -sk mailsdb
  1505096 mailsdb

So the additional disk space usage seen on 10.5 must be related to changes in the test. I
see only:

DERBY-3448 ; adjusting re-setting of auto-commit state and isolation level.
Reinstating modifications of revision 636829, plus additional changes to
  enable build.

Perhaps the state readjustments are causing more rollbacks and thus taking more space? I
will investigate, but am reducing the priority of this issue to minor as it doesn't appear
to be a product regression.

> When I ran the mailjdbc test on 10.5.1.0 RC I found that the mailsdb database grew to
16GB after two days. On 10.4.2.0 on the same machine with the same configuration (no derby.properties)
it grew to only 1.7GB after 7 days. Both were sane builds.
> This is with the embedded configuration:
> java org.apache.derbyTesting.system.mailjdbc.MailJdbc embedded
