Both failures were caused by this assert:

        // Verify that the plan shows the filtering (2 rows of 3 seen):
        assertTrue(plan.indexOf("Row Count (1):" + nl +

                                "Rows seen = 3" + nl +
                                "Rows filtered = 2") != -1);

My guess is that there's something wrong with the handling of newlines on some platforms.
