Thanks Dag for the review! I re-ordered the test cases
to place the cases which verify the workaround prior
to the cases which verify the previously-failed syntax,
and I also added some more comments to the test to
explain what was going on in the test.

I intend to submit this patch to the trunk in the next few days.
My full regression run was clean.
