Thanks a lot for your investigations, 
After lower derby.locks.waitTimeout to16 sec and derby.locks.deadlockTimeout to 15,  we still
have deadlock (in derby.log file) but we don't wait more than 15 seconds, so it's acceptable.
I also have tested the second workaround (derby.language.stalePlanCheckInterval). I have set
it to 200. ThIs time, deadlock doesn't occur.
If I understand well, changing this last property only affect performance on metadata getTable
method?
