Vemund Østgaard commented on DERBY-3561:
----------------------------------------

Yes, my thoughts on preconditions was mostly in general for all tests. It makes it a bit easier
to track down issues if preconditions are verified at the start of a test. It won't remove
noise, but for a test that fails maybe just once in a while and is difficult to reproduce
it would give insight into whether the problem is related to something that happened before
or during the test.

I think it requires some thought when deciding if a test should throw an exception if something
is not as expected at the start of the test, or silently adapt to the change in behavior.
It is important not to mask what potentially is a bug, but at the same time you don't want
unnecessary noise.
