I believe this issue can be closed since both sub-tasks have been completed.

The quoted code throws an exception with SQL state 58009, which does not fit into any of the
SQLNonTransientException subclasses (see table 8-1 in the JDBC 4.0 spec), so I think it is
correct to throw a plain SQLException. I haven't checked whether SQL state 58009 is the correct
one to use in this situation, though.
