I could not apply this patch to the latest version but applied it to the checked out  version
for review.  It looks good but it seems like it would be good to have a centralized method
for shutting down the database from tests as it seemed those 4 or 5 lines of code are repeated
in a lot of places.  Please sync up and post a new patch and I will try to commit it quickly
before there are conflicts.
