Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: DERBY-33
Summary: Connection.setTypeMap throws unimplemented exception with empty map
       Type: Bug

     Status: Unassigned
   Priority: Minor

    Project: Derby
 Components:
             JDBC
   Versions:
             10.0.2.0

   Assignee:
   Reporter: Daniel John Debrunner

    Created: Wed, 6 Oct 2004 1:47 PM
    Updated: Wed, 6 Oct 2004 1:48 PM

Description:
With some other unimplemented methods Derby accepts a default value or value that is in effect
a no-op. In this case an empty map should be accepted. May want to apply the same logi to
other JDBC methods that take a type map.
