That's what the Sybase platform is actually doing. Note that there are some cases however
where it is not possible to use an ALTER TABLE MODIFY statement:

* adding or removing IDENTITY
* adding a non-IDENTITY required column that has no default value

If you have a specific error case, then please open a separate issue for this particular error,
and if possible, please provide some more info about it.
