Actually the third parameter can have other values then null.
As a matter of fact I already implemented the UDF and tested it, but didn't got the time to
align my environment for submitting the code (and probably won't have the time soon). So I
attached to this issue  the code + example for the third parameter, to be used as a reference
for your implementation.
