The issue is (kind of obvious) that UMLS.hbm.template.xml is not a valid xml file - it is a template used to generate a valid xml file.  

@filter.umls.catalog@ gets replaced with either the empty string (mysql/oracle) or an attribute (sql server) to specify the catalog that the umls schema is in.  The easiest solution would be to rename this file so that the eclipse xml validator doesn't try to chew on it; will have to make some slight modifications to the scripts that generate the final xml.
