Subject [jira] [Commented] (CTAKES-131) Reconcile Type System with the updated CEM templates
Date Thu, 14 Feb 2013 18:25:12 GMT

Stephen Wu commented on CTAKES-131:

As a preliminary step, I'm adding historyOf as a feature to Element. This is needed for the
attribute discovery task.

However, there's some question as to whether this is the right place to add it -- should it
rather be a HistoryOfModifier added to ProcedureMention DiseaseDisorderMention, and SignSymptomMention,
analogous to things like BodyLaterality? This would be more similar to the annotation schema.

But, the reasoning for the existing solution is that historyOf is this: I believe polarity,
conditional, hypothetical, generic, and subject are pragmatics issues that are, in varying
degrees, specific to the clinical domain. HistoryOf is certainly a pragmatics attribute (sort
of like hedging?) specific to the clinical domain.

> Assignee: Stephen Wu
> Priority: Minor
> There are new things in the general CEM templates that have not been added to the type
system. This includes new features (e.g., historyOf) and semantic types (e.g., Devices) that
were not previously represented or annotated.
> Some of these are being annotated, some of them are not.
