Subject [jira] [Commented] (CRUNCH-386) HBase 0.98.1 upgrade
Date Thu, 01 May 2014 11:05:15 GMT

Gabriel Reid commented on CRUNCH-386:

Patch looks good to me.

About maintaining an HBase 0.96-specific branch, my guess is that there isn't really a need
to do that. As far as I know, HBase 0.96 and HBase 0.98 are wire-protocol compatible, and
I think the support the same HFile format (although I'm not sure about that).

If we really want to specifically keep supporting HBase 0.96, I think we could probably also
just do that in the same branch, using reflection or something to deal with the API changes
at runtime, as the API changes that affect Crunch don't seem to be in the critical path. However,
I think the days of HBase 0.96 are pretty numbered -- I've heard that there won't be another
0.96 release, and the major vendors are moving to HBase 0.98 in their next release as well.

this moment.
