Yes, definitely -- I was actually sure that deep copies weren't performed for primitives and
strings, but apparently that's only the case with Avro.

[~stepinto] are you working on a patch for this already, or just making the issue visible
for now? I don't mind putting together a patch for it if you haven't already started on it.
