Subject Problem installing/running couchdb on ubuntu
Date Wed, 19 Jan 2011 16:35:29 GMT
Hi all,

I am trying (and failing) to install and start couchdb on Ubuntu 10.4
(64 bit).

Long history short, I remove 0.10 0 using sudo apt-get remove couchdb
which went fine, and then
got in a muddle, so deleted all the files containing couchdb from
everywhere and then...

Downloaded the 64 bit version from CouchOne -
http://www.couch.io/get#ubuntu
Ran it with sudo - it appeared to run without errors.
Reboot, and found couch was not running

ian@mars:~$ sudo ps uax | grep couchdb
[sudo] password for ian:

--color=auto couchdb

later....

ian@mars:/opt/couchdb-1.0.1$ sudo ./etc/init.d/couchdb start
  * Starting database server
couchdb

[ OK ]
ian@mars:/opt/couchdb-1.0.1$ sudo ps uax | grep couchdb

OK - now its running. Now I try

ian@mars:/opt/couchdb-1.0.1$ curl -X GET http://127.0.0.1:5984
curl: (7) couldn't connect to host
ian@mars:/opt/couchdb-1.0.1$

The bind_address has been set to 0.0.0.0 in
/opt/couchdb-1.0.1/etc/couchdb/local.ini - but I can't reach it from
another machine either.
The port has NOT been changed.

Does anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong ?

Regards

Ian
