thanks. I checked, but it can not support '*a' query --- * and ? can be the first char. I can not figure out how to query 'find doc that contain a' for example.

Lucene supports wildcard queries, so you might want to use 'q=a*'. Don't
know anything about couchdb-lucene, though.
