Okay - I’m finally getting back to this

I followed these instructions (without change) here is the info they
suggested I share:

Dual 2 GHx PoerPC G5

- automake version: 1.11
- autoconf version: 2.64
- libtool version: 2.2.6a
- help2man version: 1.36.4
- icu version: 4.2.1
- spidermonkey version: 1.7.0
- curl version: 7.19.5
- erlang version: R13B01

$ ./bootstrap
You have bootstrapped Apache CouchDB, time to relax.

Run `./configure' to configure the source before you install.

$ sudo chown -R couchdb:couchdb /usr/local/var/lib/couchdb
$ sudo chown -R couchdb:couchdb /usr/local/var/log/couchdb

$ sudo -i -u couchdb couchdb
sudo: unable to change directory to /usr/local/var/lib/couchdb: No
such file or directory

…snip… Full output:

Apache CouchDB 0.10.0a802285 (LogLevel=info) is starting.
{"init terminating in
2): Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libnspr4.dylib\n Referenced
from: /opt/local/lib/nspr/libplds4.dylib\n  Reason: image not found"}
init terminating in do_boot
2): Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libnspr4.dylib
  Referenced from: /opt/

I’ll post my continued efforts separately. In the meantime if this
output sheds light on the problem I’d love to know about it. Cheers
