Alexander Shorin commented on COUCHDB-2237:
-------------------------------------------

In term of breaking compatibility changes, if we really want to drop "continuous" in favour
of "stream" or whatever we cannot make it on next major release because of one simple reason:
migration. Replication is the way to do that. So it could be only possible to drop it at least
at N+2 major release: if it becomes introduced in 2.0, only in 4.0 it could be possible to
make alias as primary one. Otherwise migration from 2.x to 3.x would be full of pain. Following
this plan, N+1 major release (3.x) need to probe both feed types, preferring new one.

> With PouchDB we generally try to stick to the same param names as Couch, we are even
changing some we implemented first to be compatible (https://github.com/pouchdb/pouchdb/issues/2193)
> However 'continuous' sucks to type, its confusing to type and spell and everyone gets
it wrong, we still support it but switched to documenting it as 'live' and life is awesome
again
