Paul Joseph Davis updated COUCHDB-667:

> Project: CouchDB
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: Futon

> Futon's doc editor tries to guess the type of values, often getting it wrong.
> I discovered it when a JSON object containing items was turned into a string, breaking
my application. e.g. {...} was quoted giving "{...}". Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this.
> However, other (admittedly contrived) examples are:
> 1. Add a field and enter the string "1" as the value. Edit the value and try to enter
the number 1 instead. The value is implicitly converted back to a string.
> 2. Add a field and enter the string "[]" as the value. Try to change the value to the
string "[100]". The value is implicitly converted to the list [100].
> Personally, I think the implicit type conversion is a really bad idea and should be removed.
It might be nice to special-case the doc id but even that doesn't really seem worth the effort.
