Subject [jira] Updated: (COUCHDB-807) authentication cache (user docs cache)
Date Wed, 23 Jun 2010 18:42:49 GMT

Filipe Manana updated COUCHDB-807:
----------------------------------

    Attachment: auth_cache_2.patch

As of revision 956886, the test case users_db.js was made "visible" once again (not ignored
by make install and therefore listed in Futon).

The previous patch was not tested against that test case and therefore it had a bug:

- it allowed the authentication of users whose user document has conflicts

This second version of the patch fixes this issue

> Currently, in order to authenticate an incoming request, each authentication handler
will read a user doc from the _users DB.
> By default, 3 authentication handlers are defined (default.ini), which means we can have
3 _users DB lookups (besides 3 DB open and close operations).
> Taking into account that this is done for each incoming HTTP request, for very busy servers
this current behaviour might be overkill.
> The following patch adds a new gen_server which implements an authentication cache and
keeps the _users DB open all the time, so that cache misses and refreshes are as quick as
possible.
