I meant the first.  However, I didn't realise that Chris had originally intended to return
a 406 response, which upon reflection is the preferred solution as you point out.  It just
wasn't working properly and sent a 500 "render_error" instead.  He has now fixed it and it
returns a 406, so I think we are all in agreement now.  Thanks for your attention to detail!
