Subject [Couchdb Wiki] Update of "HTTP_Document_API" by RobertNewson
Date Fri, 02 Mar 2012 15:42:34 GMT
Dear Wiki user,

You have subscribed to a wiki page or wiki category on "Couchdb Wiki" for change notification.

The "HTTP_Document_API" page has been changed by RobertNewson:

- Note: When you delete a document the database will create new revision of it which contains
_id, _rev, _deleted fields. This revision will be stayed even after a [[Compaction#Database_Compaction|database
compaction]]. The reason of it to ensure that deletion of document will be replicated to other
databases. Such documents will affect on views calculation time and even on simple PUT and
DELETE requests time. See [[Performance|Performance page]] for details.
+ Note: Deleted documents remain in the database forever, even after compaction, to allow
eventual consistency when replicating. If you delete using the DELETE method above, only the
_id, _rev and a deleted flag are preserved. If you deleted a document by adding "_deleted":true
then all the fields of the document are preserved. This is to allow, for example, recording
the time you deleted a document, or the reason you deleted it.

Note that this is a non-standard extension to HTTP.
