Subject [jira] [Commented] (CB-13238) Splashscreen documentation dangerous
Date Wed, 06 Sep 2017 06:56:00 GMT

Volker Braun commented on CB-13238:

Yes, as the documentation suggested I created ldpi... xhdpi versions. Now I know that providing
an xxxhdpi version as well would have averted the crash, but that is quite a trap for the
unwary and should be addressed in the docs (which is why I opened the issue here). Really,
just like you want the new universal splash screen on iOS (which the docs correctly point
out) you also want a single splash image on Android instead of bundling multiple resized versions
in the app.

 Then my app is crashing with
> {code}
> Fatal Exception: java.lang.RuntimeException: Canvas: trying to draw too large(119421184bytes)
> {code}
> on startup on xxxhdpi devices (e.g. Samsung S8). Note the 119421184 bytes are 2730^2
pixel * 4 bytes color depth times an extra 2^2; The last factor is the rescaling from xhdpi
-> xxxhdpi.

to blow it up first because we have a high dpi device.
