----------------------------------------------------------

Another way to temporarily workaround this issue would be to make use of the current code
in the master branch of cordova-lib, since in it this issue is fixed.

I would try the following:

- backup project
- create a temp directory and clone the latest cordova into it :
   * mkdir ~/temp
   * cd ~/temp
   * git clone https://github.com/apache/cordova-cli.git (this clones cordova-cli)
   * edit ~/temp/cordova-cli/package.json (under dependencies section) to point to the current
master where this bug is fixed :
           -- change "cordova-lib" : "4.0.0" to "cordova-lib": "https://github.com/apache/cordova-lib.git",
   * inside ~/temp/cordova-cli, run 'npm install'
   * cd ~/hello-project
   * inside your project, run 'update' using the latest version of cordova-lib you just cloned
: ~/temp/cordova-cli/bin/cordova platform update android@3.7.1

[I think this method would help maintain your pre-existing platforms and plugins]

Let me know if this works for you.
