I do have the Android SDK installed, and I don't know whether it is set up properly in order
for cordova to find it. I followed installation instructions which, by the way, are extremely
convoluted (every documentation page tells you there is a requirement that you needs to install
first and links you to another page and these links eventually lead to a loop).

If the exception above is supposed to be telling me that the Android SDK cannot be found,
then that's not the proper way of informing me of that. A more meaningful error message should
be given (if that is the cause of the exception).
