Thanks for your answer. Yes, the APN settings list a proxy. I went to my provider's internet page and it lists APN settings for android without a proxy. I set up an new APN with the given settings and now it all works (even my ajax requests). Hooray :) Thank you, thank you a hundred thousand times :)
