Subject [jira] [Commented] (CB-1944) Create script on Android has to provide better error messages
Date Thu, 29 Nov 2012 01:27:57 GMT

Simon MacDonald commented on CB-1944:

Well if you look at some of the threads on the mailing list many people on Windows especially
had trouble getting the creat script going because they were missing one of the necessary
programs from their PATH. I'd like to see the create.bat script specifically identify which
pieces are missing in order to help people get up and running quickly. We lost a lot of goodwill
on Android 2.2 as our simplified approach actually made things tougher for many folks.

I did a quick prototype on my PC but haven't had the time to get back to it.

> We moved to providing a source release that is compiled by the user via the "create"
script. In order for this to work the user is required to install and setup:
> Ant
> Android SDK
> If any one of those packages is missing from the Windows PATH then the script fails with
a generic error message:
> Missing one of the following:
> JDK:
> Android SDK:
> Apache ant:
> This could be a lot better and based on the feedback on the I've seen on the mailing
list we have a lot of upset users and we could make life a lot easier for them.
