Using unix-m-p would be nice, but there are a few fixes which should be implemented regardless of this; 

1. make the tr command more robust, see CONTINUUM-2181

2. Look at WRAPPER_CMD and PIDDIR 

3. Why is it necessary to set wrapper.port on solaris?
