Hm ...why? The user only cares about is his revision - not the
more or less internal counting of continuum.
Revision plus try-count would be the way to go IMO

r24322 / try 1
r24322 / try 2
r24324 / try 1
...

Actually the current build number is a "try" number anyway.
Only that SCMs with atomic commits have the feature of per
revision try-counts.
