Members care for the ASF itself. This is usually demonstrated through the roots of project-related and cross-project activities. Legally, a member is a "shareholder" of the foundation, one of the owners. They have the right to elect the board, to stand as a candidate for the board election and to propose a committer for membership. They also have the right to propose a new project for incubation (we'll see later what this means). The members coordinate their activities through their mailing list and through their annual meeting. A ASF Member has earned merit for foundation work, just like a PMC member has earned merit for work within the project. I am sure of one thing committer/PMC/asf member are all voted in due to their personal merit and not due to recommendations. Of course to be nominated as member, members need to know you, but that comes quite natural when you do foundation work, similar to PMC. > One thing worth asking is why the community you are involved in feels the > need to have someone be elected as a Member? > Another question is, why not attract the attention of existing members. All incubator projects have at least one member in their community. I looked in people.a.o to see if I could determine the project, but I could not find your name ? (sorry if I overlooked it). rgds jan I > > Rob > > On 08/07/2014 09:43, "Pierre Smits" wrote: > > >Hi All, > > > >Is it possible that contributors of a project can propose a community > >member to be elected as an Apache Member? > > > >Regards, > > > >Pierre Smits > > > >*ORRTIZ.COM * > >Services & Solutions for Cloud- > >Based Manufacturing, Professional > >Services and Retail & Trade > >http://www.orrtiz.com > > > > > --089e0160b9b069445304fdabf818--
