Subject [jira] [Updated] (IMAGING-182) Enhance TIFF writer to support grayscale images
Date Wed, 20 Apr 2016 11:32:25 GMT

Gary Lucas updated IMAGING-182:
    Attachment: Imaging_182_Patch_2016_04_20.patch

Here is a patch that addresses the item #182, providing an enhancement to the Apache Commons
Imaging library to write grayscale-formatted TIFF files. Among their other uses, grayscale
images are useful in applications that process satellite images and related data products.

The patch contains code changes for the main API, a small amount of additional javadoc, and
a modification to the round-trip test for TIFF images.

As soon as this patch gets accepted (if it gets accepted), I will move forward on submitting
a patch for Item 170, which involves overlapping code.

I hereby release the patch that I contributed, Imaging_182_Patch_2016_04_20.patch, for use
by the Apache Software Foundation and all interested parties according to the conditions specified
in the Apache License, Version 2.0 described at

> The current implementation does not permit to storage of grayscale images when writing
a TIFF output. Grayscales come in handy for converting satellite image products to GeoTIFFs
for display in GIS applications. The current implementation can read grayscale formats but
cannot writing them.
