No I don't want to do that if it can be avoided as I think I demonstrated by experiment.
See above, where I could "pull" without first setting up a "remote": all the information is
in the pull command generated by a pull request.

Could you please show the *full output* of the pull request which you performed?

Moreover _I don't follow, at all_ what you mean with the "edit", "commit",  "merge" steps
since my local copy is in sync with "feature-MATH-1290" as it is on the Apache repository.
 This is confirmed by

Hence your changes should apply cleanly, with no intervention from me.
IIUC, I should only perform step 11 (or 8 and 11 if I first pulled the request into a branch
other than "feature-MATH-1290").

It seems that we are having a serious communication problem, and since nobody can help at
the moment, let's revert to the old way: Please attach a patch to this report page.  Thanks.
